We have been successfully using Selenium WebDriver in our customer projects for many years. The use of this framework is particularly suitable due to its openness as an open source tool and the variety of programming languages that can be used.
Our test experts have already introduced Selenium to our customers in test management , test architecture and test automation . The successful use of Selenium leads to more efficient and comprehensive test processes in your project and thus to sustainably successful product development.
What is Selenium?
The Selenium family consists of several tools for the purpose of test automation. The Selenium WebDriver framework in particular has a very good reputation and is therefore the market leader in the area of automated testing of web applications for good reason. Selenium has also been the official W3C standard for automated testing of web applications since June 2018.
The Selenium family also includes Selenium Grid for parallel testing and the Selenium IDE as a browser plugin for capture/replay. All Selenium tools are open source . The Selenium Core was released early under an appropriate open source license.
Other frameworks for test automation are based on the main project Selenium WebDriver mentioned above, for example:
- Appium for testing mobile apps
- WinAppDriver and Winium for testing Windows applications
- Protractor for AngularJS based websites
- Oxygen as a compound of Selenium and Appium
Special features of Selenium
Selenium is used by many large and innovative companies, such as Apple and Facebook, and is also being actively developed by other giants such as Google. These companies recognized the advantages and special features of Selenium at an early stage and are using them.
The framework comes in different “flavors” or language bindings, such as Java, Python and C#. This means you can use Selenium in the programming language you know best.
There are also plugins and extensions for Selenium in many tools. Examples include "Selenium for Jenkins" for controlling a Selenium grid system or "Taurus" for connecting load tests under JMeter with Selenium front-end tests.
Last but not least, Selenium is also an open source framework. This means that other people or groups can further develop it or create new software based on the core.
